Barfi!

Barfi! is a romantic comedy-drama set in 1970s India, centred on Murphy "Barfi" Johnson, a deaf-mute young man from Darjeeling whose playful nature and mischievous streak win him attention even when his jokes are not always appreciated. He falls for Shruti Ghosh, but her family's practical expectations and her impending marriage to another man stand in the way, since she is expected to settle down with a "normal" husband. Years later their paths cross again, and Barfi has meanwhile grown close to Jhilmil Chatterjee. The film follows the three of them as they find that love does not fit easily into the rules society sets for it.

Anurag Basu directed and wrote the film, which sits first in the chronological list of his directed features, ahead of Ludo and Metro... In Dino. Ranbir Kapoor plays Barfi, with Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Jhilmil, Ileana D'Cruz as Shruti, and Saurabh Shukla, Jisshu Sengupta and Ashish Vidhyarthi in supporting roles; the credited cast runs to 26 names. UTV Motion Pictures and Ishana Movies produced it, with Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur as producers. Its IMDb rating stands at 8.1 from around 93,000 votes, while on TMDB it holds 7.6 from 391 votes, both pointing to a generally favourable audience response.
