Ghost Town

Bertram Pincus is a Manhattan dentist who prefers people at a distance and avoids social contact whenever he can. During a routine medical procedure he briefly stops breathing, and when he comes to he finds he can see and hear the dead. The ghosts of New York all want favors from him, but the most persistent is Frank Herlihy, a smooth-talking spirit who wants Bertram to keep Frank's widow, Gwen, from marrying again. Bertram inserts himself into Gwen's life and soon finds himself caught between the living and the dead.

The film is a comedy with dramatic and romantic elements, directed by David Koepp, who wrote the screenplay with John Kamps. It is the fourth feature Koepp directed, following Stir of Echoes and Secret Window. Ricky Gervais leads the cast as Bertram, with Greg Kinnear as Frank and Téa Leoni as Gwen; Billy Campbell, Aasif Mandvi and Dana Ivey appear in supporting roles.

Ghost Town was released in September 2008 and runs 102 minutes. Made for about 20 million dollars, it took in roughly 27 million worldwide. Audiences rate it 6.7 out of 10 on IMDb and 6.5 out of 10 on TMDB, while the film critics' rating stands at 7 out of 10 from 185 reviews, slightly above both audience scores.
