Short description

Black Butterflies follows three women from different regions of the globe who are forced to leave their homes due to the effects of global warming. After losing everything to the climate crisis, they emigrate from India, Kenya, and the Caribbean. The story focuses on their journey away from uninhabitable lands and their struggle to adapt to hostile environments and uncertain working conditions in the countries where they seek refuge.

This animated documentary was directed by David Baute, marking the first film in a chronological sequence that includes the 2026 project Benigno. Written by Yaiza Berrocal and produced by Cesar Zelada, David Baute, and Edmon Roch, the film is a joint production between Spain and Panama. The voice cast features Laura Gómez as Valeria, Bella Agossou as Tanit, and Miranda Gas as Shaila, alongside David Comrie, Jean-Didiere Aïssy, and Maria Jesús Lleonart.
