Two Hands

Jimmy is nineteen and getting by on the margins of Sydney's red-light district, working as a bouncer at a strip club. When Pando, a local crime figure, gives him a simple courier job worth ten thousand dollars, Jimmy sees his way into the underworld. Two petty thieves rob him of the money instead, leaving him in debt to a dangerous man and looking for a way out. His answer is a bank robbery.

Gregor Jordan wrote and directed Two Hands, his first feature. It was followed by Buffalo Soldiers, Ned Kelly, The Informers and Unthinkable. Heath Ledger plays Jimmy, with Bryan Brown as Pando, Rose Byrne as Alex, David Field as Acko, Tom Long as Wally and Tony Forrow as Eddie. Marian Macgowan produced; Meridian Films and CML Films are behind it. The film runs 103 minutes and mixes crime, comedy and thriller elements across the streets of Sydney.

On IMDb and TMDB, Two Hands holds modest scores, with TMDB showing 6.6 out of 10 from 169 votes, suggesting a small but settled following rather than broad attention. What the numbers mainly show is a title known for the people involved as much as for its own reputation: an early lead for Ledger and an early credit for Byrne.
