College Road Trip

College Road Trip centers on Melanie Porter, a driven high school student with plans to attend law school. Before she commits to a university, she wants to visit campuses around the country and make the choice herself, and she organizes a road trip with her friends to do it. Her father James, a police chief who is deeply protective of his daughter, has other ideas, insisting on coming along and steering her toward schools he considers suitable. The clash between Melanie's wish for independence and her father's need to stay in control turns the trip into a series of comic detours.

Roger Kumble directed the film, his fifth feature after Cruel Intentions, Cruel Intentions 2, The Sweetest Thing and Just Friends. Ken Daurio, Cinco Paul and Carrie Evans wrote the screenplay, and Andrew Gunn produced for Walt Disney Pictures and Gunn Films. Martin Lawrence plays Chief James Porter and Raven-Symoné plays Melanie, with Kym Whitley, Brenda Song, Margo Harshman and Donny Osmond in supporting roles.

Released in March 2008, the film runs 83 minutes and cost about 25 million dollars to make, earning roughly 52 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 3.4 out of 10 from 74 reviews, while on TMDB it has a rating of 5.4 from 421 votes, indicating that general audiences responded somewhat more favorably than reviewers did.
