Shattered Glass

Shattered Glass tells the true story of Stephen Glass, a young journalist in Washington who rose quickly through the ranks of The New Republic during the 1990s while also writing for publications such as Rolling Stone and Harper's. His colourful reporting made him one of the most talked-about writers of his generation, but colleagues who tried to verify his stories found no trace of the people and events he described. A fellow reporter, Adam Penenberg, noticed discrepancies in his work, and the magazine's editor, Chuck Lane, began checking the articles himself, establishing that many of them were partly or entirely fabricated.

Billy Ray wrote and directed the film, which was released in 2003 and was his first time directing. It was followed by Breach in 2007 and Secret in Their Eyes in 2015. Hayden Christensen plays Glass, with Peter Sarsgaard as Lane, Chloë Sevigny as Caitlin Avey, Rosario Dawson as Andy Fox, Melanie Lynskey as Amy Brand and Hank Azaria as Michael Kelly.

Made for about 6 million dollars, the film took roughly 3 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds 7.1 out of 10 from over 37,000 votes, and on TMDB 7 out of 10 from around 490 votes. A critics' rating of 7.7 out of 10 from 166 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores.
