The World's Fastest Indian

The World's Fastest Indian tells the story of Burt Munro, a New Zealander from Invercargill who has spent decades modifying a 1920 Indian motorcycle. His goal is to take the machine to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah and see how fast it can go. In his sixties and in poor health, he nevertheless travels to the United States, where the unfamiliar country, the cost of the trip and the rules of the speed trials all stand in the way of his ambition.

Roger Donaldson wrote and directed the film, which sits at number 11 of the 15 features he has directed, between The Recruit and The Bank Job. Anthony Hopkins leads the cast as Munro, with Walton Goggins, Diane Ladd, Bruce Greenwood, Iain Rea and Tessa Mitchell in supporting roles; 53 cast members and 50 crew are credited. The production was made across New Zealand, the United States, Switzerland and Japan on a budget of 25 million dollars, and it took about 18 million dollars worldwide.

Critical and audience responses were close. A film critics' rating of 7 out of 10, drawn from 141 reviews, is matched by 7.8 out of 10 on IMDb from 64,000 votes and 7.7 out of 10 on TMDB from 929 votes. The film runs 127 minutes.
