Gowok: Javanese Kamasutra

Set in 1960s Java, this film centers on the tradition of the gowok, women hired to teach young men about sexuality and domestic life before marriage. The story follows a young woman who betrays her teacher and falls in love, leading to severe consequences. This romantic conflict disrupts the spiritual and aesthetic rituals of the initiation process, as a student develops feelings for the adopted daughter of his instructor.

Directed by Hanung Bramantyo, the film followed La Tahzan: Cinta, Dosa, Luka... (2025) and preceded The Secret Recipe (2025) in his career. Bramantyo also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Aci and ZZ Mulja Salih. The production was managed by MVP Pictures and Dapur Film Production, with Raam Punjabi serving as producer. The cast features Raihaanun as Ratri Sujita, Lola Amaria as Nyai Santi, and Reza Rahadian as Kamanjaya, with a total of 43 credited performers.
