Set in post-war France, this crime drama follows Jan Bojarski, a Polish refugee and engineer. Unable to legally patent his inventions, Bojarski begins producing high-quality counterfeit bank notes, eventually becoming known as the Cézanne of counterfeit money. For over a decade, he maintains a secret double life, hiding his illegal activities from his family while crafting fakes that deceive the Bank of France. This technical mastery sparks a long-term obsession for Commissioner André Mattéi, leading to a personal duel between the lawman and the forger.
