Short description
Return to the Blue Lagoon is a 1991 adventure drama set in the South Pacific. A ship rescues an infant adrift in a boat with his dead parents, and a widow traveling with her young daughter takes charge of him, naming him Richard. When cholera breaks out aboard, the captain sets the woman, her daughter Lilli and the boy into a small boat; after days at sea they reach a deserted island. The widow raises the two children there and teaches them from the Bible, but she dies when they are about eight. Left alone, Richard and Lilli grow up together in the tropical wilderness, passing from childhood into adolescence and falling in love. Their isolated world is disrupted when a ship anchors offshore and its passengers bring the temptations and dangers of civilization with them.
William A. Graham directed and produced, working from a screenplay by Leslie Stevens. It followed The Blue Lagoon (1980) and came between Graham's Jigsaw and Blood Crime. Milla Jovovich plays Lilli, Brian Krause plays Richard, Lisa Pelikan plays Sarah Hargrave, and Courtney Barilla and Garette Ratliff Henson appear as the younger Lilli and Richard.
Made for 11 million USD, the film returned about 3 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.2/10 from 23,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.2/10 from 1,268 votes; a critics' rating of 2.8/10 from 32 reviews places it well below audience scores.
