Miss Potter

Miss Potter is a biographical drama about Beatrix Potter, the English author and illustrator who created the Peter Rabbit stories. Set in late Victorian London, it follows her as she resists the expectations placed on women of her social class, who were generally expected to marry well. Instead she devotes herself to drawing animals and writing stories for children. Her work attracts the attention of a young publisher, Norman Warne, who becomes her editor and then her suitor, while her parents disapprove.

Chris Noonan directed the film, his second feature after Babe (1995), from a screenplay by Richard Maltby, Jr. Renée Zellweger plays Beatrix, with Ewan McGregor as Norman Warne, Emily Watson as his sister Millie, and Barbara Flynn and Bill Paterson as Beatrix's parents. The production had a budget of 30 million dollars and took in about 35 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from roughly 34,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.7 out of 10 from around 570 votes. A critics' rating of 6.5 out of 10 from about 130 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
