Short description
Set during World War II, this historical drama follows the true story of Jewish prisoners at the Chełmno death camp in Poland. Forced to act as gravediggers for the victims of gas chambers, a group of inmates plots a daring escape. The narrative focuses on Solomon and Michael, who use a stolen piece of glass to break free and flee through forests and rivers. Their goal is not merely survival, but to alert the rest of the world about the Holocaust by providing the first eyewitness accounts of the atrocities.
The film was written and directed by Lior Geller, following his 2019 project We Die Young. The cast features Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Solomon and Jeremy Neumark Jones as Michael, supported by actors such as Charlie MacGechan, Michael Epp, and David Kross. What's left behind the scenes
- Director and screenwriter Lior Geller had a personal reason for working on the project – his paternal aunt survived the Holocaust as a child.
- In one scene, a character played by David Cross tells a story about a Third Reich officer who nearly died from exhaust fumes. This is a reference to historical facts and an incident that led to the use of carbon monoxide gas for mass executions, which in turn led to the invention of mobile gas chambers.
