Blame It on Rio

Matthew Hollis is a man on holiday in Rio de Janeiro with his best friend, Victor Lyons, and each of them has brought his teenage daughter along. Matthew drifts into a secret affair with Victor's daughter Jennifer, and the arrangement grows harder to hide, especially once Victor learns that an older man is involved with her and asks Matthew to help track the man down.

Stanley Donen directed the film, the sixteenth of the sixteen features he made in chronological order, following Saturn 3. Larry Gelbart and Charlie Peters wrote the screenplay, and Donen produced it with Bruce McNall for 20th Century Fox and Sherwood. Michael Caine plays Matthew, Michelle Johnson plays Jennifer, and Joseph Bologna plays Victor, with Demi Moore as Matthew's daughter Nicole, Valerie Harper as his wife Karen, and José Lewgoy as Eduardo Marques.

The film was released in February 1984 and runs 100 minutes. Made for about 9 million dollars, it took in roughly 19 million worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds 5.8 from around 13,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.8 from about 200 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 3.4 from 27 reviews, noticeably below what audiences gave it.
