Short description

Tommy Pickles has been an only child until now, but his family has just grown with the arrival of a baby brother, Dil. Tommy's friends Chuckie, Phil and Lil find the newborn's crying and demands just as hard to take as he does. Convinced the baby is more trouble than he is worth, the group decides to take Dil back to the hospital where he came from. Their trip goes wrong, and the children end up lost in a large forest, where they face threats including a wolf and a troop of monkeys that have escaped from a circus. Tommy has to work through his feelings about his brother if he wants to get everyone home.

The film is an animated family adventure produced by Paramount, Nickelodeon Movies and Klasky-Csupo, based on the television series. It was directed by Norton Virgien, whose later credits include Rugrats Go Wild and Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey!, and by Igor Kovalyov, who had previously directed Hen, His Wife. J. David Stem and David N. Weiss wrote the screenplay, Gábor Csupó and Arlene Klasky produced, and the voice cast includes Elizabeth Daily as Tommy, Tara Strong as Dil, Christine Cavanaugh as Chuckie, Kath Soucie as the DeVille family, and Whoopi Goldberg and David Spade as two park rangers.

Made for about 30 million dollars, the film took roughly 100 million dollars worldwide, a strong return for an animated release of its modest scale. On IMDb it holds 5.9 out of 10 from around 22,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.3 out of 10 from a much smaller sample. A critics' rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 50 reviews places professional opinion close to the audience scores.
