Barreda is an Argentine crime drama drawn from one of the country's most notorious cases. In 1992, Ricardo Barreda, a dentist who seemed unremarkable to those around him, killed his wife, his mother-in-law and his two grown daughters inside the family home. He then presented himself as a victim and justified the killings as self-defence, while his lawyer argued during the trial that he had been driven by circumstance. The case grew far beyond the courtroom, becoming a national scandal fed by intense media coverage, and the film looks back at the family's history to examine what happened behind closed doors and how the killer came to be seen by some as a popular figure while the four dead women were pushed to the margins.
Daniela Goggi directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Juan Cavoti Caterbona and Josefina Licitra. It is her fourth feature, following Abzurdah, The Red Thread and The Rescue: The Weight of the World. Luis Machín plays Ricardo Barreda, with Carla Peterson, Mercedes Morán, Maite Lanata, Margarita Páez and Marcelo Subiotto among the cast. Armando Bo and Natacha Cervi produced for Amazon MGM Studios, Infinity Hill and About Entertainment; the film runs 105 minutes.
Released in August 2026, the film holds a rating of 7.2 out of 10 on TMDB from 72 votes, indicating a generally favourable response from those who have seen it.
