Mischief is a 1985 American comedy set in 1956 in a small town. Jonathan Bellah is a shy high school senior who has little success with girls. His situation changes when he befriends Gene Harbrough, a rebellious classmate who is popular with the opposite sex and offers to give Jonathan advice on romance. Gene himself is devoted to his girlfriend Bunny, whose wealthier family disapproves of him. As Jonathan tries to put the lessons to use, he finds that some things must be learned on his own.
The film was directed by Mel Damski, its second feature after Yellowbeard in 1983, from a screenplay by Noel Black. Doug McKeon plays Jonathan, with Catherine Mary Stewart as Bunny, Kelly Preston as Marilyn McCauley, Chris Nash as Gene, and Jami Gertz as Rosalie among a credited cast of 24. It was produced by 20th Century Fox and SLM Production Group and runs 93 minutes.
Released in February 1985, Mischief took in about 9 million dollars worldwide, a modest return for a studio comedy of its period. On IMDb it holds a 6.5 rating from roughly 7,700 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.7 from 164 votes, indicating a small but generally favorable audience response.
