Based on real events, Operation Sámán follows Hungarian soldiers during the NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan. Their mission becomes an evacuation effort, with hundreds of people, including children, brought out of the country as the military presence winds down. The story centers on Second Lieutenant Bálint Kerekes and the soldiers under his command as they carry out this task amid the wider collapse of the NATO mission.
The film is directed by Zsombor Dyga, who previously directed Question in Details (2010) and Run to Ground (2011). This is his third feature and his first historical action drama. Áron Horvàth wrote the screenplay, and Tamás Lajos produced. Gábor Jászberényi leads the cast as Kerekes, alongside Blanka Mészáros as Dr. Eszter Takács, Tamás Borovics as Lieutenant Colonel Péter Herceg, Dávid Hajmási as Sergeant Petrov, Gusztáv Dietz as Staff Sergeant Berti, and Nóra Trokán as Sergeant Zsuzsa Székely.
The production was backed by Hungary's National Film Institute, Szupermodern Stúdió, MTVA and the Hungarian Defence Forces, with a reported budget of 8 million USD. It was released on November 20, 2025, placing this Hungarian action drama in the tradition of the country's recent large-scale historical productions.
