Enthiran

A scientist, Dr. Vaseegaran, builds an advanced humanoid robot named Chitti in his own likeness. When the robot is presented to a scientific review body, it is turned down because it cannot behave or feel like a person. A lightning strike then changes things: Chitti begins to experience human emotions, including love. That love lands on Sana, the doctor's own fiancée, and the robot's new feelings set it on a collision course with the man who made it, with serious consequences.

Enthiran is a 2010 Indian science fiction action film directed by Shankar, who also wrote the screenplay, with Kalanithi Maran producing through Sun Pictures. Rajinikanth plays both the creator and his creation, while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan appears as Sana and Danny Denzongpa as Dr Bohra. It sits second in the director's filmography, between Boys and Nanban, and was later followed by 2.0 and Indian 2: Zero Tolerance.

The film runs just under three hours and mixes action, adventure, fantasy and science fiction. Its reported budget was unusually large for its time and market, yet its worldwide gross was modest by comparison, so it performed far below its cost. Audiences received it reasonably well: it holds a 7.2 rating on IMDb from a substantial number of votes, and a 6.6 on TMDB from a much smaller sample. A critics' score of 6 out of 10, drawn from a dozen reviews, is broadly in line with those audience figures.
