WΔZ

WΔZ is a British crime thriller about a series of murders in a run-down city neighbourhood. The bodies are found in pairs: one victim is tortured and killed, while someone close to them is left dead alongside. The Price equation is carved into the flesh of some victims, and as Detective Eddie Argo and his new partner Helen Westcott investigate, they learn that each killing forces a choice on the person involved, to take the life of someone they love or lose their own. The case pulls Argo back toward a past he would rather leave behind.

The film was directed by Tom Shankland, the first of the two features listed in his directing career, from a screenplay by Clive Bradley. Stellan Skarsgård plays Argo, with Melissa George as Westcott, Selma Blair as Jean Lerner, Sally Hawkins as Elly Carpenter, John Sharian as Jack Corelli and Paul Kaye as Gelb. It was produced by James Richardson and Allan Niblo, with backing from Ingenious Media, the UK Film Council, Vertigo Films and Northern Ireland Screen.

Released in 2007, WΔZ runs 104 minutes and took about 2 million dollars worldwide. Audiences have been lukewarm: on IMDb it holds 5.7 out of 10 from roughly 9,800 votes, and on TMDB 5.6 out of 10 from around 234 votes. A critics' rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 14 reviews places it close to the audience scores, with neither group rating it highly.
