Set during the closing stages of a Japanese civil war, this historical drama follows a group of disgraced ronin residing in the red light district of Edo. These masterless samurai seek to reclaim their lost honor by protecting a local brothel and its workers from a hostile militia intent on killing them.
The film was directed by Kazuo Kuroki, following his previous works When the Night Breaks and Tomorrow. It was produced by Hisao Nabeshima with a screenplay written by Kazuo Kasahara. The ensemble cast features Yoshio Harada as Gennai Aramaki, Kanako Higuchi as Oshin, and Renji Ishibashi as Gonbei, alongside Hideyo Amamoto, Moeko Ezawa, and Hiroko Isayama.
Released in 1990, the movie has a runtime of 117 minutes and was a joint production between Shochiku and the Nippon Television Network Corporation. Audience reception is generally positive, reflected by a 6.6 rating on IMDb based on 612 votes and a 6.2 rating on TMDB from 16 votes.
