Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone

After a catastrophic event known as the Second Impact, humanity faces attacks from giant creatures called Angels. The organization NERV fights back using Evangelion units, biomechanical machines capable of confronting the Angels. Fourteen-year-old Shinji Ikari is summoned by his father, Gendo, to NERV headquarters and pressed into service as the pilot of Evangelion Unit 01, despite his withdrawn nature and emotional difficulties. Alongside fellow pilot Rei Ayanami and operations director Misato Katsuragi, Shinji takes part in the defense of Tokyo-3, including a large-scale operation against an advancing Angel. The film retells the opening portion of the 1995 television series Neon Genesis Evangelion, adding new scenes and effects.

The film was released in 2007 and directed by Hideaki Anno, with Kazuya Tsurumaki and Masayuki also credited as directors. It is the eighth of fifteen films Anno has directed, following Cutie Honey and preceding Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. Anno wrote the screenplay, and the voice cast includes Megumi Ogata as Shinji, Megumi Hayashibara as Rei and Yui, Kotono Mitsuishi as Misato, Yuriko Yamaguchi as Ritsuko Akagi, Akira Ishida as Kaworu Nagisa and Fumihiko Tachiki as Gendo. Produced by khara on a budget of about 7 million dollars, it took roughly 16 million dollars worldwide. It holds a 7.5 rating on IMDb from around 31,000 votes and a 7.6 on TMDB from over 1,100 votes, while its critics' rating stands at 6.9 from seven reviews.
