A Boy Named Charlie Brown

Charlie Brown has little luck in anything he tries. He cannot get a kite into the air, and his baseball team keeps losing, partly because of him. When Lucy projects his shortcomings onto a screen for everyone to see, his standing among his classmates drops further. Despite the teasing of the girls in his class and the warnings of others, he puts himself forward for the school spelling bee, and his performance there takes him and his friends to New York for the national finals.

This 1969 animated feature is the first full-length film built around the Peanuts characters created by Charles M. Schulz, who also wrote the screenplay. Bill Melendez directed it, the third title in his run of Peanuts films after A Charlie Brown Christmas in 1965 and It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown in 1966; he also produced it with Lee Mendelson, and provided the vocal effects for Snoopy. Peter Robbins voices Charlie Brown, with Pamelyn Ferdin as Lucy, Glenn Gilger as Linus, Andy Pforsich as Schroeder and Sally Dryer as Patty.

The film runs 86 minutes and was produced by United Feature Syndicate, Lee Mendelson Film Productions, Bill Melendez Productions and Cinema Center Films. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 from around 6,200 votes, while on TMDB it has a rating of 7 from roughly 198 votes, indicating a strong and fairly consistent level of approval from both audiences.
