Short description

Cool Books is a Spanish comedy and drama centered on Hilario, a forty-year-old writer struggling with failure. He finds himself caught between a longing for classic literature and a cynical view of the modern publishing industry. After facing repeated rejections from publishers across Spain for his novel, he supports himself by working at a bookstore called La Ménsula. Hilario also teaches an online writing class for elderly women, but his harsh personality and dislike of sentimental themes create a rift between him and his students, increasing his sense of isolation.

The film was directed by Andrés Salmoyraghi and Rafael López Saubidet, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Ricardo Uhagon Vivas. The production was handled by TVE and AF Films. The movie stars Marcel Borràs in the lead role of Hilario, with a supporting cast that includes Silma López, Lorenzo Ferro, Julián Villagrán, Adelfa Calvo, and Secun de la Rosa. With a runtime of 87 minutes, the film was released on April 22, 2026.
