A young London mother is at home with a journalist she has been seeing when bombs go off at a football match her husband and small son are attending. Both are killed in the attack, and the deaths of more than a thousand other people are reported, with many still unaccounted for. Overcome by guilt, she struggles to make sense of the loss. The reporter, meanwhile, begins looking into the bombing himself and finds signs that officials may have known more beforehand than they have admitted, while the police officer leading the investigation grows close to her and keeps a secret of his own.
Incendiary is a British drama directed by Sharon Maguire, who also wrote the screenplay, from a cast led by Michelle Williams, Ewan McGregor and Matthew Macfadyen. It was Maguire's second feature, arriving seven years after her debut Bridget Jones's Diary and eight years before Bridget Jones's Baby, and it moves away from the comedy of that first film into darker territory. It was produced by Adrianne Maguire, Anand Tucker and Andy Paterson, with a budget of around 10 million US dollars.
The film was released in January 2008. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.4 out of 10 from 189 votes. Its critics' rating is lower, 3.8 out of 10 from 25 reviews.
