A Goofy Movie
Short description
Max Goof wants nothing more than to get through his final day of school on a high note and catch the attention of Roxanne, a classmate he has fallen for. His father, Goofy, means well but has a habit of embarrassing him, and when word of Max's stunt at a school assembly reaches home, Goofy decides the two of them need time together. He packs his son into the car for a fishing trip across the country, the same kind of outing his own father once took him on, without realizing he has just wrecked Max's chances of taking Roxanne to a concert. Father and son clash along the way as Max tries to steer the trip back toward his own plans.
The animated feature was directed by Kevin Lima, the first film he directed; his later work includes Tarzan and Enchanted. Bill Farmer voices Goofy, Jason Marsden voices Max, with Aaron Lohr providing Max's singing voice, and Jim Cummings, Rob Paulsen and Kellie Martin among the cast. Chris Matheson, Brian Pimental and Jymn Magon wrote the screenplay, and Dan Rounds produced.
Made for about 18 million dollars, the film took in roughly 35 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7 out of 10 from around 69,000 votes, and on TMDB 7 out of 10 from about 1,970 votes; a critics' rating of 6.2 out of 10 from 55 reviews places it somewhat below those audience scores.
What's left behind the scenes
- The English word "goofy" translates as "silly, foolish, or dumb" (carrying a non-offensive, ironic connotation), so the original title of the film can be translated as "Silly Movie."
- At 27:58, characters such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck appear for a second, although they have no relation to the plot.
- When Goofy and Max start singing on their way to go fishing, and everyone driving by joins in, you can notice women dressed as nuns – the same nuns can be seen in the episode at the store when Goofy gets the idea to go fishing. They can also be observed before the start of Powerline's concert.
- The AMC Pacer car is very often featured in Disney cartoons. And this one is no exception. The Pacer also appears in the animated series "Kick Buttowski: Suburban Daredevil" (2010) and in the animated film "Cars 2" (2011).
