Madly Madagascar

Madly Madagascar is a short animated special built around the characters from the Madagascar films. Alex the lion has always loved Valentine's Day, but his new life in Africa means the holiday is not celebrated the way it was back at the zoo, and he no longer receives the attention he once did. Along with his friends, he sets out to mark the occasion properly. Marty the zebra tries to win over an okapi, Melman plans something elaborate for Gloria, and King Julien's love potion causes complications for several of the animals.

The special was directed and written by David Soren, whose earlier work includes the holiday short Merry Madagascar, released four years before this one. It sits between the second and third Madagascar features. Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith reprise their voice roles as Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria, with Cedric the Entertainer as Maurice and Andy Richter as Mort. DreamWorks Animation produced it, and Lisa Stewart and Chad Hammes served as producers. Running 21 minutes, it was released in January 2013. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.6 out of 10 from 275 votes, reflecting a modest but positive response from viewers.
