Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack

Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack is set in the year UC 0093, roughly a decade and a half after the events of the original Mobile Suit Gundam series. The Earth Federation, having recovered from earlier defeats, has formed a new anti-colonial unit called Londo Bell to counter rebellious forces. Meanwhile, Char Aznable emerges from hiding to lead Neo Zeon, a movement that demands the people of Earth migrate into space. To force that outcome, he threatens the planet itself, and the Londo Bell crew under Bright Noa, with Amuro Ray at the forefront, is tasked with stopping him. The film thus frames the long-running rivalry between Amuro and Char as a confrontation over humanity's future.

Yoshiyuki Tomino directed and wrote the film, which sits fifth in the chronological list of his directed features, arriving after the Mobile Suit Gundam compilation films and before Mobile Suit Gundam F91. The voice cast includes Toru Furuya as Amuro Ray, Shuichi Ikeda as Char Aznable, Fuyumi Shiraishi as Mirai Yashima, Hirotaka Suzuoki as Bright Noa, Kazue Ikura as Rezin Schnyder and Koichi Yamadera as Gyunei Guss. Fifty-two crew members are credited. Produced in Japan by Shochiku, Bandai Visual, Sotsu and Sunrise, the film runs 120 minutes and took about 7 million dollars worldwide.

Audience response has been consistent: it holds a 7.2 rating on IMDb from around 2,500 votes and the same 7.2 on TMDB from about 80 votes, indicating a generally favorable reception among viewers of the franchise.
