Short description
Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise is set on an Earth-like world divided between the Kingdom of Honneamise and a rival republic, where the threat of war grows as technology advances. The kingdom's space program is widely seen as a joke, staffed by demoralized personnel and given little chance of ever reaching orbit. Shirotsugh Lhadatt, a drifting young cadet with no clear purpose, volunteers for the program after an encounter with Riquinni, a devout young woman. As an unlikely team of aging engineers works toward a first manned launch, military leaders see the project as a tool for propaganda and possible conflict, and outside forces move to sabotage it.
The 1987 film was directed by Hiroyuki Yamaga, who also wrote the screenplay, and was produced by GAINAX with a budget of roughly 8 million dollars. It marked Yamaga's feature directing debut. The voice cast includes Leo Morimoto as Shirotsugh, Mitsuki Yayoi as Riquinni, Aya Murata, Kazuyuki Sogabe, Masato Hirano and Masahiro Anzai, with 64 crew members credited.
