The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations

Sam Reide can travel into the past, a gift he puts to use helping the police close murder cases by witnessing crimes and later identifying those responsible. He follows one rule: he observes, he does not interfere. That changes when Elizabeth Brown asks him to find out who killed her sister, a case that draws him back toward Rebecca Brown, someone he once loved.

Seth Grossman directed the film, the first of the two features he has made, working from a screenplay by Holly Brix. Chris Carmack plays Sam, with Mia Serafino as Rebecca, Sarah Habel as Elizabeth, Rachel Miner as Jenna Reide and Melissa Jones as Vicky among the credited cast of twenty-three. Producers were A.J. Dix, J.C. Spink and Scott Watson, and the film was released in January 2009, running ninety minutes.

It belongs to a series of standalone thrillers built around the idea that altering the past carries consequences, and here Sam's intervention sets a killer loose. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.6 from roughly 22,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.5 from a much smaller pool of around 650, so opinion sits in the middle ground rather than at either extreme.
