Joseph: King of Dreams is an animated telling of the biblical story of Joseph, the favoured son of Jacob. Gifted with prophetic dreams and marked out by his brightly coloured coat, Joseph becomes the target of his brothers' jealousy. They sell him into slavery and he is taken to Egypt, where his ability to interpret dreams gradually raises his standing until he is called on by the pharaoh himself.
The film was released in 2000 as a direct-to-video production from DreamWorks Animation, with Universal Home Video and DreamWorks Home Entertainment involved. It runs 74 minutes. Rob LaDuca directed it as his first feature, going on to direct Jasmine's Enchanted Tales: Journey of a Princess in 2005. Robert C. Ramirez, who had previously directed The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue and The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars, also directed. The screenplay is by Joe Stillman, Raymond Singer and Eugenia Bostwick-Singer, and Ken Tsumura produced.
Ben Affleck voices Joseph, with Mark Hamill as Judah, Richard Herd as Jacob, Maureen McGovern as Rachel, Jodi Benson as Asenath and Judith Light as Zuleika. On IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from around 16,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.9 out of 10 from about 1,100 votes, indicating a generally favourable if moderate response.
