Dick is a 1999 comedy set in Washington, D.C., in the early 1970s. Two teenage friends, Betsy Jobs and Arlene Lorenzo, stray from their school group during a tour of the White House and cross paths with President Richard Nixon. They end up walking his dog, Checkers, and before long they are spending time around the president as informal advisers. When they stumble onto evidence connected to the Watergate affair, the political scandal and the people trying to contain it start to revolve around the two girls.
Andrew Fleming directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Sheryl Longin, and Gale Anne Hurd produced. The film is the fourth of the eight features Fleming has directed, arriving between The Craft and The In-Laws. Kirsten Dunst plays Betsy and Michelle Williams plays Arlene, with Dan Hedaya as Nixon. Will Ferrell and Bruce McCulloch appear as the journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, and Teri Garr plays Arlene's mother. Made for about 13 million dollars, it took in roughly 28 million worldwide.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.2 from around 23,000 votes, and on TMDB a 6 from roughly 300 votes. A critics' rating of 6.4 from 72 reviews places it slightly above the audience scores.
