Short description
In the futuristic Metro City, a brilliant scientist creates a powerful robot boy to replace the son he lost. The robot, named Astro, possesses superhuman abilities and human values, but he struggles to meet his creator's expectations and faces the reality of not being human. After being rejected, Astro navigates a dangerous world involving betrayal and robot gladiators. Eventually, he must use his unique skills to protect his city and attempt to reconcile with the father who created him.
Directed by David Bowers, this 2009 animated science fiction film followed his 2006 work Flushed Away. It was a joint production between the United States, Japan, and Hong Kong, involving Summit Entertainment, Imagi Animation Studios, and Tezuka Productions. The voice cast features Freddie Highmore, Kristen Bell, Nathan Lane, Eugene Levy, Matt Lucas, and Bill Nighy.
The movie had a budget of 65 million USD and earned 44 million USD at the worldwide box office. It holds a 6.3 rating on IMDb from 43,000 votes and a 6.3 rating on TMDB from 1,701 votes. These audience scores are higher than the 5.7 rating given by film critics based on 136 reviews.
