Free Fall

Marc Borgmann is a police officer with a promising career, a partner named Bettina, and a baby on the way. When he meets fellow officer Kay Engel during a training course, the two begin running together, and Marc develops feelings for another man for the first time. Caught between the settled life he has built and this new attraction, he finds his relationship and his sense of himself slipping out of control.

Stephan Lacant directed and co-wrote the German drama with Karsten Dahlem, working from a story by Lacant. It was his first feature, and he later returned to the same characters in Free Fall – Who You Are, released alongside Manhunt: Cold Sun in 2026. Hanno Koffler plays Marc, with Max Riemelt as Kay and Katharina Schüttler as Bettina; Maren Kroymann, Luis Lamprecht and Attila Borlan appear in supporting roles. The film was produced by Christoph Holthof and Daniel Reich, with ARD, SWR and kurhaus production among the companies behind it.

Free Fall runs 97 minutes and belongs to the drama and romance genres. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.5 from roughly 24,000 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 7.7 from about 856 votes, figures that suggest a modest but appreciative audience rather than a broad one.
