Mothra vs. Godzilla

A typhoon washes a giant egg ashore in Japan, where fishermen recover it and a businessman buys it to turn into a tourist attraction. Two tiny twin fairies arrive from Infant Island to ask that the egg be returned to their deity, the giant moth Mothra, but their request is refused. When Godzilla appears and begins destroying the country, the people of Infant Island face the question of whether to help those who would not help them, and the journalists and a scientist who befriended the fairies try to repair the damage in time.

The film is directed by Ishirō Honda, the fifteenth of the twenty-five films he directed in chronological order, following Matango in 1963 and preceding Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster in 1964. Shinichi Sekizawa wrote the screenplay. Akira Takarada and Yuriko Hoshi play the reporters Ichiro Sakai and Junko Nakanishi, with Hiroshi Koizumi as Professor Miura, Yū Fujiki as Jiro Nakamura and Kenji Sahara as Jiro Torahata. Produced by Toho, it is part of the Godzilla series and pits the studio's two most famous monsters against each other.

The film took about 10 million dollars worldwide. On TMDB it holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from 356 votes, and its critics' rating stands at 6.8 out of 10 from 13 reviews, so audience and critical scores sit close together. It runs 89 minutes.
