Persuasion

Anne Elliot, a baronet's daughter whose family has fallen into debt, once broke off her engagement to Frederick Wentworth, a naval officer with neither fortune nor standing. Nearly eight years later, with the Napoleonic wars over, the now-wealthy Captain Wentworth returns to her social circle, and the two meet again while Anne's father is forced to let the family estate to Admiral Croft. Anne must weigh past advice against her own feelings as she and Wentworth navigate the expectations around them.

Persuasion is a British, American and French co-production adapted from Jane Austen's novel, directed by Roger Michell from a screenplay by Nick Dear and produced by Fiona Finlay. Amanda Root and Ciarán Hinds lead the cast as Anne and Wentworth, with Susan Fleetwood, Corin Redgrave, Fiona Shaw and John Woodvine among the 26 credited performers. It was Michell's first feature, preceding Notting Hill, Changing Lanes and The Mother.
