The Informers
Short description
Set in Los Angeles in 1983, The Informers follows seven loosely connected characters over the course of a single week. Among them are a Hollywood executive, his wife and his mistress, a rock star on tour, a group of wealthy teenagers, and a kidnapper. Drugs, casual sex and casual violence run through their lives, and the film traces how these habits shape the ways they treat one another. The story draws on Bret Easton Ellis's collection of linked short stories, and Ellis wrote the screenplay with Nicholas Jarecki.
Gregor Jordan directed, taking the job between Ned Kelly and Unthinkable; his earlier films include Two Hands and Buffalo Soldiers. The cast is led by Billy Bob Thornton as William Sloan, Kim Basinger as Laura Sloan, Jon Foster as Graham Sloan, Amber Heard as Christie, Winona Ryder as Cheryl Moore and Mickey Rourke as Peter, with 33 credited performers in all. Marco Weber and Ellis produced, and the film was made for a budget of 18 million dollars.
The Informers received a critics' rating of 3.8 out of 10 across 104 reviews, lower than its audience scores on IMDb, where it holds 4.9 out of 10 from around 18,000 votes, and on TMDB, where it stands at 4.8 from 264 votes.
