An expedition into unexplored territory leads a group of British travellers to the lost city of Kuma, a hidden civilization that has been ruled for centuries by Ayesha, an immortal queen who commands absolute obedience. Among the newcomers is the young Leo Vincey, whose striking resemblance to an ancient priest named Callicrates draws Ayesha's attention. She becomes convinced that Leo is the reincarnation of the man she loved and killed long ago in a jealous rage, and she sets out to keep him at her side and make him immortal like herself. Their connection unfolds against the resistance of Leo's companions and the hostility of the desert peoples around Kuma.

Directed by Robert Day and written by David T. Chantler, this British production from Hammer Film Productions was the first feature Day directed in the chronological list of his filmography, ahead of Banyon, Death Stalk, Scruples and The Quick and the Dead. Michael Carreras produced, and the cast includes Ursula Andress as Ayesha, Peter Cushing as Holly, Bernard Cribbins as Job, John Richardson as Leo Vincey, Rosenda Monteros as Ustane and Christopher Lee as Billali, supported by a credited crew of forty-one.

The film runs 106 minutes and blends adventure, fantasy and romance. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from around 4,000 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 5.6 from a much smaller base of 63 votes, indicating modest audience approval from a limited but somewhat larger sample on the first platform.
