Set in 1818, this drama follows Joseph Mohr, a young assistant priest arriving in the Austrian town of Oberndorf. Seeking to make the church more accessible to the general public, Mohr faces significant opposition from his superior, Father Nostler. The tension escalates when Mohr forms a church choir composed of local outcasts and chooses to perform in German rather than Latin. The conflict deepens when a woman named Maria joins the traditionally all-male group. As his initiatives fail and his faith is tested, Mohr must decide whether to leave the town or embrace the meaning of the holiday season.
The film was directed, produced, and written by Christian Vuissa. It features a cast including Carsten Clemens as Joseph Mohr, Markus von Lingen as Franz Gruber, and Janina Elkin as Maria, alongside Alexander E. Fennon, Matthias Kupfer, and Clemens Aap Lindenberg. This joint production between Austria and the United States was released as a TV movie on November 28, 2013, with a total runtime of 95 minutes. Mirror Films served as the production company for the project.
