They Came Together

Molly runs a small candy shop, the Upper Sweet Side, and Joel is a executive at a large sweets corporation whose plans threaten to put her out of business. The two meet and take an immediate dislike to each other, but their lives keep intersecting, whether by chance or necessity, and they gradually grow closer despite the conflict between their professional interests. Their relatives and former partners add further complications as the relationship develops.

David Wain directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Michael Showalter, who also produced. It was released in 2014, arriving between Wanderlust in 2012 and A Futile and Stupid Gesture in 2018 as the fifth of the seven features Wain has directed. Paul Rudd plays Joel and Amy Poehler plays Molly, with Bill Hader, Ellie Kemper, Cobie Smulders and Noureen DeWulf among the supporting cast. The production credits 37 cast members and 44 crew members.

The comedy runs 83 minutes and was released in the United States by Lionsgate and Semi-Formal Productions. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.6 out of 10 from around 26,000 votes, while on TMDB it also stands at 5.6 out of 10, from 461 votes. A film critics' rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 96 reviews places critical response somewhat above the audience scores on both platforms.
