Last Hero in China

Wong Fei-hung, the celebrated martial arts master played by Jet Li, finds his school bursting with students and short on space. He moves into a cheaper neighbourhood, only to discover that his new premises sit beside a brothel, and that something worse is going on nearby: young women are being abducted and sold. When he learns that respected figures, including monks, are involved in the trade, he and his students take on the criminals behind it.

The film is a Hong Kong action comedy directed by Wong Jing, who also wrote the screenplay, with Jet Li and Charles Heung producing. Jet Li leads a cast that includes Sharla Cheung, Alan Chui Chung-San, Dicky Cheung Wai-Kin, Leung Kar-yan and Anita Yuen. It was Wong Jing's twelfth film as director in the chronology given here, arriving between Fight Back to School 3 and Kung Fu Cult Master, both from the same year.

Released in April 1993 and running 111 minutes, the film rates 6.6 out of 10 on IMDb from around 3,800 votes and 6.3 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller base of 93 votes. A critics' rating of 6.4 out of 10, drawn from seven reviews, sits close to those audience scores, suggesting a broadly similar reception across viewers and reviewers.
