The Bride with White Hair

Cho Yi Hang is a gifted swordsman serving the Wu-Tang clan, a role he never wanted and carries without confidence. As the clan's reluctant heir and commander in its war against foreign tribes and a fanatical cult, he meets Lien, a beautiful killer who works for the cult and is just as weary of her own life. Their love defies the lines drawn between their two sides, and both the clan and the cult respond with anger. What begins as a romance between two people bound to opposing masters develops into a conflict that costs them dearly. The film is based on a classic of Chinese literature, set against the martial world of the Wudang mountains, and blends swordplay with fantasy elements.

Ronny Yu directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Jason Lam Kee-To and Elsa Tang Bik-Yin, with Raymond Wong producing for Mandarin Films. The film sits fifth among the eight titles Yu directed, between Legacy of Rage and Warriors of Virtue. Leslie Cheung plays Cho Yi Hang and Brigitte Lin plays Lien Ni Chang, with Francis Ng, Elaine Lui Siu-Ling, Yammie Lam Kit-Ying and Law Lok-Lam in supporting roles. Running 92 minutes, it was released in Hong Kong in late August 1993.

On TMDB, the film holds a rating of 6.5 out of 10 from roughly a hundred votes, a modest score that suggests a mixed but not dismissive response from those who have logged it.
