A meteorite strikes the Great Valley, cutting off its water and setting off a drought. As the supply shrinks and food grows scarce, the adults begin to argue and turn on one another, and strict rationing follows. Hoping to ease the crisis, Littlefoot and his young friends set out to locate another source of water. Their search brings them up against a gang of older dinosaurs who bully them, and it takes them toward the mysterious lands beyond the valley, where the feared sharp-toothed dinosaurs live.
This third entry in the animated series came out in 1995 and was made for home viewing rather than cinemas. Roy Allen Smith directed it, as he had the second film a year earlier and would direct the fourth a year later; Dev Ross wrote the screenplay, and Smith produced with Zahra Dowlatabadi. The voice cast returns Scott McAfee as Littlefoot, Candace Hutson as Cera, Heather Hogan as Ducky, Rob Paulsen as Spike and Jeff Bennett as Petrie.
The film is short, running about seventy minutes. Ratings place it in moderate territory: on IMDb it holds 5.6 out of 10 from roughly seven thousand votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.2 out of 10 from a few hundred votes, so those who seek it out tend to be somewhat warmer toward it than the larger IMDb sample.
