The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning is a 2007 action comedy that serves as a prequel to the long-running television series. Teenage cousins Bo and Luke Duke find themselves in trouble with the law, and their parents persuade a judge to send them to Hazzard County for a summer of hard labour on their Uncle Jesse's farm. There they meet their cousin Daisy for the first time, and they soon learn that the corrupt local official Boss Hogg intends to seize the family property, which has a long history of producing moonshine. With Daisy's help, the boys set out to protect the farm and stand up to Boss Hogg.
Robert Berlinger directs from a screenplay by Shane Morris, working from a story credited to Gy Waldron, who created the original series. The film falls early in Berlinger's feature directing career, following years of television work. Jonathan Bennett and Randy Wayne play Bo and Luke, with April Scott as Daisy, Joel David Moore as Cooter, Harland Williams as Rosco and Sherilyn Fenn as Lulu. Produced by Warner Premiere, Gerber Pictures and Hollywood Media Bridge on a budget of about five million dollars, the film runs 95 minutes and was made for television.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.4 from roughly 5,500 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.2 from 233 votes. The higher figure rests on a much smaller sample, so the two scores reflect quite different levels of voter engagement.
