Fierce People is a drama-thriller about Liz Earl, a massage therapist in New York whose wealthy clients include Ogden C. Osborne, a multimillionaire who invites her to live and work at his country estate in New Jersey. Liz wants to leave behind her drug problems and rebuild her relationship with her teenage son, Finn, whose father is an anthropologist in South America. Finn hoped to spend the summer with his father, but instead moves with his mother to Osborne's ranch, where he is drawn into the lives of Osborne's rich relatives and friends. The film, based on the novel by screenwriter Dirk Wittenborn, follows mother and son as they try to start over in a privileged world that turns out to have its own dangers.
Griffin Dunne directed the film, the third of the five features he directed in a filmography that runs from Addicted to Love in 1997 to Movie 43 in 2013. Diane Lane and Anton Yelchin play Liz and Finn, with Donald Sutherland as Osborne, and Chris Evans, Kristen Stewart and Paz de la Huerta among a credited cast of 29.
Released in 2006 with a runtime of 112 minutes, the film was made in Canada and the United States and produced by Lionsgate. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.4 from around 7,600 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 6.1 from roughly 130 votes. A critics' rating of 4.7 from 45 reviews is noticeably lower than the audience scores.
