Fools Rush In

Fools Rush In follows Alex, a Manhattan executive sent to Las Vegas to oversee construction of a nightclub, and Isabel, a young woman of Mexican heritage. After a single night together, three months pass before Isabel returns to tell Alex she is pregnant. The two decide to marry, but their different backgrounds soon pull them in opposite directions. Alex is a committed New Yorker waiting for the right career chance to take him home, while Isabel is close to her large Mexican American family and unwilling to leave them. Their marriage forces both to confront how much of their own traditions and plans they are prepared to give up.

Released in 1997, the film was directed by Andy Tennant, following his 1995 feature It Takes Two, and written by Katherine Reback. Matthew Perry plays Alex and Salma Hayek Pinault plays Isabel, with Jon Tenney, Carlos Gómez, Tomas Milian and Siobhan Fallon Hogan among the supporting cast. Produced by Doug Draizin for Columbia Pictures, it had a budget of twenty million dollars and took about forty-two million worldwide, a modest return.

Audience response has been warmer than that of critics. On IMDb the film holds 6.1 out of 10 from roughly forty-two thousand votes, and on TMDB it sits at 6.5 from some six hundred votes, while the critics' rating stands at 5.2 from thirty-six reviews.
