Aubrey Davis travels to Tokyo after learning that her sister Karen has been hospitalized there. Karen claims she set fire to a house to save her boyfriend's life, but the people around her believe she is responsible for the deaths that followed. Aubrey soon finds herself exposed to the same supernatural force that has been haunting her sister, a curse that passes from one victim to the next and draws in people who seem to have no connection to each other.
Elsewhere in Tokyo, a schoolgirl named Allison goes along with a prank that sends her into a burnt-out house tied to unexplained killings and disappearances, and in Chicago a withdrawn boy watches his neighbors behave in increasingly disturbing ways. These separate lives converge around the curse, which has found a way out of the house where it began.
Takashi Shimizu directed the film, his eighth of twenty features and a follow-up to his 2005 release Reincarnation. Stephen Susco wrote the screenplay, and Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert and Takashige Ichise produced. Amber Tamblyn, Edison Chen, Takako Fuji, Ohga Tanaka, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Arielle Kebbel are among the thirty-five credited cast members. Made for a reported 20 million dollars, it took in about 39 million worldwide. Ratings sit at 5.1 on IMDb from 53,000 votes and 5.6 on TMDB from 1,160 votes, while the critics' score stands at 3.5 from 77 reviews.
