Short description
Gus Van Sant wrote and directed Paranoid Park, a crime drama set in Portland, Oregon. The story follows Alex, a teenage skateboarder who is drawn to an illegal skate park known as Paranoid Park, a hard-edged spot where local skaters gather. Alex is not yet at ease there, but after he visits, a security guard is found dead nearby, and Alex finds himself at the centre of the police investigation that follows.
The film stars Gabe Nevins as Alex, alongside Dan Liu as Detective Richard Liu, Jake Miller as Jared and Taylor Momsen as Jennifer, with Lauren McKinney and Scott Patrick Green among a credited cast of 53. Van Sant adapted the screenplay from Blake Nelson's novel. It arrived twelfth in the eighteen films Van Sant has directed in chronological order, following To Each His Own Cinema and preceding Milk.
Paranoid Park was released on 12 July 2007 and runs 85 minutes. Made for about 3 million US dollars, it took roughly 4 million dollars worldwide, a modest return for a small production. It holds a critics' rating of 7.3/10 from 122 reviews, higher than its audience scores of 6.6/10 on IMDb from 33,000 votes and 6.5/10 on TMDB from 621 votes, indicating stronger critical than popular approval.
