Slackers

Three college roommates have spent four years cheating their way through Holden University, and graduation is finally within reach. Their scheme falls apart when Ethan, an unpopular and obsessive student, obtains proof of their academic dishonesty. Rather than turning them in, he offers a deal: help him win over Angela, a fellow student he is fixated on, or he will expose them. Dave takes on the task, but after meeting Angela he develops feelings for her himself, leaving the friends to find a way out of the arrangement before their degrees slip away.

Slackers was directed by Dewey Nicks from a screenplay by David H. Steinberg, and produced by Erik Feig and Neal H. Moritz. It was released in early 2002 and runs 86 minutes. Devon Sawa plays Dave, with Jaime King as Angela, Jason Segel as Sam, Michael C. Maronna as Jeff, and Jason Schwartzman as Ethan. Laura Prepon also appears, and the credited cast numbers 28.

The film is a comedy with romantic elements, made as a Canadian-American co-production. Its budget was 14 million USD, while its worldwide box office came to 6 million USD, indicating it did not recoup its production costs in cinemas.
