Short description
When Longfellow Deeds, a small-town pizzeria owner and poet, inherits $40 billion from his deceased uncle, he quickly begins rolling in a different kind of dough. Moving to the big city, Deeds finds himself besieged by opportunists all gunning for their piece of the pie. Babe, a television tabloid reporter, poses as an innocent small-town girl to do an exposé on Deeds.
What's left behind the scenes
- Famous tennis player John McEnroe appeared in a cameo role in the film.
- The Sikorsky S-92 helicopter used in the film had not yet completed mandatory certification by the Federal Aviation Administration at that time, and its interior was not yet finished. For this reason, no actors or crew members were allowed on board the helicopter, and all interior shots were artificially simulated.
- During a phone call with Longfellow Deeds, Winona Ryder’s character, pretending to be a school nurse, speaks about a sick boy named Billy Barty in her office. This is a small tribute to actor Billy Barty, who passed away in 2000, three months before the start of the film’s production.
- Director Steven Brill appears in a cameo as a violinist at Madison Square Garden.
- During the filming of the scene where Deeds beats up Marty in the street, an enthusiastic Adam Sandler delivered such a blow to Allen Covert that he fell to the ground and hit his head on the asphalt, losing consciousness for a minute.
- Filming period: May – June 2001.
- The sign reading “Welcome to Mandrake Falls” and the subsequent poem are taken from the original film “Mr. Deeds Goes to Town” (1936).
- Rob Schneider played the exact same cameo as a delivery courier as he did in another Adam Sandler film, “Big Daddy” (1999).
