Infinity is a drama about the early life of Richard Feynman, the American physicist who would go on to win the Nobel Prize. As a boy, Richard is drawn to science and to moving objects, an interest encouraged by his father. Arline, a schoolmate, becomes the most important person in his life. When she is diagnosed with tuberculosis, Richard throws himself into studying her illness in the hope of helping her. Once her health improves, the two marry, and his university work and the war eventually take him to Los Alamos and the Manhattan Project.
The film was released in 1996, runs 119 minutes, and was directed by Matthew Broderick, who also plays Feynman. The screenplay is by Patricia Broderick, who produced alongside Broderick and Joel Soisson. Patricia Arquette plays Arline Greenbaum, with Peter Riegert as Mel Feynman, Jeffrey Force as the young Richard, and David Drew Gallagher and Raffi Di Blasio in supporting roles. It is a modest American independent production from Overseas FilmGroup, First Look International and Neo Productions.
On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 6.2 from around 2,100 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.6 from 19 votes, a very small sample. A critics' rating of 6.7 from 11 reviews places it slightly above the IMDb audience score. Infinity was Matthew Broderick's first film as director, following a long career in front of the camera.
